slip cover, which is chipped and repaired long ago with tape. Spine of both
books darkened, but books otherwise in nice condition with no wear or flaws,
except for one page in the index with a one-inch tear repaired by old tape.
Both books clean & tight overall. Photographs, bibliography, index. Vol 1 has
421 pages; Vol 2 has 451 pages.

A NARRATIVE.

Two volumes set with dust jackets. Jackets chipped & somewhat brittle,
but protected in mylar. Jacket of first volume is in two pieces
(separated between spine & front panel, with tear across spine).
Jacket of Vol 2 has several closed tears along spine gutter. However,
about 98% of both jackets present and with only very light browning.
Protected in mylar, they make a very presentable set. Both books,
apart from jackets, in excellent condition, bright & tight with no
wear or scuffing. Gold gilt on top edge of pages bright and clean.
It would be difficult to find a nicer set. Volumes have heavy paper,
frontispieces, and full-page photographic plates throughout, plus
political cartoons. Uncut pages throughout.
~~~ Volume I covers years
1858 to 1915, and runs to 471 pages; Volume II, covering 1915-17,
contains a detailed index and runs to 508 pages. Colonel House was
Woodrow Wilson's closest advisor.
