JAMESTOWN HORN, front side, showing first three panels

JAMESTOWN HORN

This is a late 17th century style flat "partitioned" horn. It is about 13" long and has several panels.

~~~ On the front side, the first panel is a map of the Roanok area with shipwreks, islands, and natives. It is taken from one of the original Jamestown maps. The second panel is of the compass rose of the map. The third panel is a ship from the map.

~~~ The top band states, "The pictures of sundry things from the voyage made by Sir Walter Raleigh Knight 1585."

~~~ The reverse side offers three panels of the natives from that area. A WERON (Warrior), A Cheiff Ladye, and A Cheiff Lorde. It is covered in geometrics and has one applied ring and spout.

This is a pretty horn about 13", Engraved with Hearts, Flowers, Birds and verses.

~~~ "When this you see remember me", and "Drawn to the (______) as the flower is drawn to the sun."

~~~ It is dated 1747 and has room for a name or initials.

This horn is also about 13" long and has, on the top side, with "Liberty" engraved, and soldiers fighting a running battle through the letters.

~~~The right side inscription reads: "What I have shall freely go . . . to lay a haughty tyrant low."

~~~ The rest of the horn is covered in flower-like geometrics.
